TALKING HEADS
*whew!* WHAT A LOT OF WORK THIS PIECE WAS! I DREW IT YEARS AGO BASED ON THOSE OUTSTANDING, CLASSIC SANT ANGELO / VERUSCHKA PHOTOS FROM VOGUE IN THE 60's (US VOGUE JULY 1968, KIDS). THE ONES WHERE THE MODEL VERUSCHKA IS THIS SORT OF BOHO-BODY-PAINTED-WRAPPED-IN-FABRIC-AND-TWINE-GODDESS. PEOPLE JUST DO NOT DO ICONIC PHOTO SHOOTS LIKE THAT ANY MORE, WHICH IS A SHAME. WHEN YOU SEE THOSE PICS NOW, THEY STILL LOOK MODERN AND FRESH AND VIBRANT!
SO, AFTER I FINISHED INKING IT I DID A WATER COLOR BACKGROUND FOR THE PICTURE, TO BE PHOTOSHOPPED IN AFTERWARD. BUT IT JUST DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT TO ME. IT DIDN'T CAPTURE THE ECLECTICNESS OF THE VERUSCHKA PICS. SO I SET IT ASIDE TO WORK ON LATER. FLASH FORWARD 3 YEARS AND HERE I AM, FINALLY FINISHING IT! I SOURCED PICS OF FABRICS AND YARNS AND MISSONI FABRICS AND GOLD LEAF TEXTURES TO ADD IN AND GIVE THE PICTURE A MORE COLLAGED FEEL. I TRIED TO BUMP UP ALL THE COLORS SO THEY MATCHED THE VIVID HUES OF RED,GREEN AND YELLOW THAT SANT ANGELO FAVORED SO MUCH.
