CHARLES JAMES + MISSLE POP = GOOD ART (?)
LAST FRIDAY I ATTENDED THE "CHICAGO FASHION" EXHIBT AT F.I.T. HERE IN NEW YORK. IT WAS KIND'A LAME BUT I DID SEE THIS TOTALY AMAZING CHARLES JAMES DRESS THERE, ALL CREAM AND YELLOW SILK TAFFETA AND TULLE. THE CONSTUCTION IN IT IS SO DENSE THAT THE DRESS CAN STAND UP ON IT'S OWN! HOW THE HELL DID WOMEN SIT DOWN IN THESE THINGS? I THINK THEY MUST HAVE STUCK A CHAIR UNDER HER DRESS FOR THE LADY TO SIT ON.
I SAW ALL THE TIGHT PLEATS AND TUCKS AND IT REMINDED ME OF A MUMMY (PLUS THAT FACT THAT THE CHICK IS SO WRAPED UP IN THIS DRESS THAT HE CAN'T MOVE!). SO I ADDED A EGYPTIAN HEADDRESS TO ALLUDE TO MY OWN EQYPT REFERENCE. AND THE STRIPES MADE ME THINK OF THOSE YUMMY MISSLE POPS YOU EAT IN THE SUMMER WHEN YOU'RE A KID (DON'T ASK ME WHY), SO SHE GETS ONE OF THOSE TOO. 'CAUSE EVEN FIVE THOUSAND YEAR OLD EGYPTIAN MUMMY'S IN A CHARLES JAMES DRESS LOVE A GOOD MISSLE POP!
PEN AND INK ON BRISTLE BOARD, COLORED IN PHOTOSHOP.
